I would love to live
Like a river flows,
Carried by the surprise
Of its own unfolding.

-John O’Donohue

Creativity is not a straight shot. It comes and goes, ebbs and flows, and unfolds in unexpected ways and at unexpected times.

Back in March when I decided to write every morning at 5:00 I was very creative, producing lots of interesting and imaginative poems. That creativity has tailed off in recent weeks.

I don’t feel as creative in the morning. My imaginative juices aren’t as active. For the time being, I have lost my “flow.”

I don’t have writer’s block. I am writing a blog entry every day and revising poems – a creative act.

I can write my way into a new creative phase. The key things are for me to keep showing up in the morning, being ready, listening, and hearing. I’ll write my way through this lull.
